Training, Education, Memberships, and Background
Dr. Loftus' formal education began at the University of Wisconsin in 1981, where she was an undergraduate as well as a medical school student. Following graduation from medical school, she pursued her surgical training at the University of California-Davis, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of Cincinnati, which is widely considered to be one of the most prestigious training programs for plastic surgeons in the country. But, before considering her 14 years of college, medical school, and residency complete, Dr. Loftus pursued a cosmetic surgery fellowship in Miami, Florida in 1995.
"I chose plastic surgery because, through it, plastic surgeons can change people in ways they never imagined possible. A change in appearance can transform someone's whole outlook on life. Being a part of this metamorphosis is the most important and pleasurable part of my work."
Dr. Loftus is considered a national authority among plastic surgeons, having appeared on numerous talk shows and news shows. The media recognize her as being among the most ethical, compassionate, and influential plastic surgeons, maintaining patient safety and satisfaction as her top priorities. They know that when they ask Dr. Loftus questions, they will get objective, up-to-date, state-of-the-art information on every area of plastic surgery.
"Even though I am considered an expert, I will never consider my knowledge complete. This is because medicine changes rapidly. To keep up with these advances, I pursue continuing medical education aggressively. That's also why professional memberships are so important. They give me an opportunity to meet with other plastic surgeons, evaluate new techniques, and share ideas with other plastic surgeons on how to get the best results for my patients with the least risk and fastest recovery."
Dr. Loftus is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the most selective and elite society for plastic surgeons. She has been inducted into the Americal Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), which She is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, for which she has been granted the privilege to use the initials F.A.C.S. after her name.
Dr. Loftus has published several articles in distinguished medical journals. Dr. Loftus also recognized the need for a truly honest source of information about cosmetic surgery for patients. The fruit of her efforts, The Smart Woman's Guide to Plastic Surgery, is now among the top-selling books in the country on cosmetic surgery. This book has helped thousands of women across the country who may never have the opportunity to meet Dr. Loftus in person.
